Alberta non-profit · charitable registration with the CRA in progress

Caring for your child shouldn’t mean going without.

Self4Care helps low-income caregivers across Canada — raising children with disabilities or serious mental health conditions — afford the essentials, get through emergencies, and access the support they’re entitled to.

A new non-profit, building real programs for the caregivers behind the care.

Who we are

For the caregivers behind the care.

Self4Care is a Canadian non-profit working to relieve poverty among low-income caregivers who provide primary care to children under 18 with diagnosed disabilities or serious mental health conditions.

Raising a child with a disability or a serious mental health condition often means higher costs and fewer hours to earn an income. Public supports exist — but they can be delayed, fall short, or be hard to navigate. Too many caregivers end up choosing between their child’s needs and basic necessities like food, rent, and utilities.

We step in with practical, needs-based help: direct assistance for essentials, short-term help in an emergency, and clear guidance to the benefits and services families are entitled to. Our focus is simple — keep caregivers steady so they can keep caring.

What we do

Three ways we help caregivers stay steady.

Every program is built to relieve financial hardship for low-income caregivers and the children who depend on them.

Help with the essentials

Needs-based assistance for basic necessities — like groceries, rent, and utilities — for low-income caregivers facing demonstrated financial hardship.

Emergency hardship support

Short-term help for urgent, unexpected costs tied to caregiving — for moments when other supports are unavailable, delayed, or simply not enough.

Benefit navigation & referrals

Information support and structured referrals that help caregivers find and reach the federal, provincial, municipal, and community supports they’re entitled to.

For caregivers

You don’t have to do this alone.

If you’re caring for a child with a disability or serious mental health condition and money is tight, we want to hear from you.

You may be eligible if…

You live in Canada.
You’re the primary caregiver of a child under 18 with a diagnosed disability or serious mental health condition.
You’re on a low income or facing financial hardship.
